Replace Celing Fan Blades

If you are interested in replacing your ceiling fan, you might want to consider replacing only the fan blades instead. Ceiling fan blade replacements are inexpensive and replacing them is a job that can easily be done on your own. Blades are available in a wide range of styles and changing them will give your ceiling fan a brand new look.

Instructions

1. Look for blades that are a similar weight and size as the original ones. If they are too big they will strain the motor and if they are too small they will not circulate air correctly. Contact the manufacturer of your ceiling fan to see what types of blades are suitable replacements for your fan.

2. Unscrew and remove the old blades.

3. Drill holes into the new blades if there are not pre-drilled holes. Set one new fan blade into a blade holder to mark where the drill holes need to go. Stack and clamp all of the blades together, with the marked blade on top, and drill the holes at the same time. This will ensure that drill holes are consistent.

4. Screw in the new blades. New screws will come with the new blades.

5. Turn on the fan to check if it is balanced and does not wobble or rattle. Test the balance for each fan speed.

6. Add weights to one or more of the fan blades if it is not balanced. Many replacement blades will come with weights. You might also have the weights that came with the original fan. Blade weighting kits can also be purchased at home improvement stores. Weights are self-adhesive and placed on the topside of the blade, where they won't be seen.

7. Test the weights. Put them in different places, on different blades with a test clip or by taping them down. Keep moving them around and turning on the fan until you achieve a balanced spin. Once you achieve balance, remove the backing from the weights and stick them onto the blades.
