Remove Harbor Breeze Fan Blades

One of the easiest ways you can help keep your house cool in summer is by installing a ceiling fan. Lowe's sells their own brand of ceiling fans under the name Harbor Breeze. Althought the fans come in a wide variety of styles, their basic operation is the same: blades are attached to a central hub. As the hub turns, it also turns the blades, which create a breeze. You can remove your Harbor Breeze fan blades for replacement or repair, if needed.

Instructions

1. Turn off the power to the Harbor Breeze fan. The easiest way to do this is by turning the switch that controls the fan to the "Off" position. Place a piece of tape over the switch so that it can't be accidentally turned on while you are working.

2. Place a sheet on the ground underneath the Harbor Breeze fan. Use a rag or fan blade cleaner to remove as much dust from the blades as possible. This will keep the dust to a minimum when you are changing the blades.

3. Place a ladder or stepladder underneath the fan. Ensure that it is steady.

4. Follow the blade back to where it meets the hub in the middle of the fan. Here you should see two or three (depending on the model) screws holding the blade in place.

5. Place a hand on the blade to hold it steady. Remove the screws at the base with a screwdriver or power drill with screwdriver attachement. Repeat this process for the other blades.
