Tilt Vs Flat Wall Mount

There are differences between a tilt and a flat mount.

After purchasing the right flat-screen TV, the next aspect to consider is how the TV should be mounted. The manner in which the TV is mounted can make or break the effectiveness of the entire home theater. For basic flat-screen TV mounts, there are two main choices: flat wall mounts and mounts that tilt.

Tilt Mount

The tilt mount is a type of mount where the television is tilted slightly against the wall, meaning that it is able to be viewed on a slight angle depending on where people are sitting.

Pros for Tilt Mount

A tilt mount is generally used for televisions that are mounted above eye level, so that the viewing angle can be more naturally direct to the viewers. Having the television at a higher angle will also allow more people to view the television. This is the reason many sports bars feature TVs that are mounted high and angled on a tilt mount down.

Cons for Tilt Mount

Tilt mounts are generally more expensive to install rather than flat mounts, but the price difference is not too dramatic. The main problem with tilt mounts, however, is that they are larger and more unwieldy since they force the television to be placed in a position further away from the wall. As such, they are less compact and do not give off the nice organized look of a flat wall mount.

Flat Mount

A flat wall mount is simply a television mount that sits flush against the wall. It is almost like hanging your television up on the wall like you would a framed painting, allowing the television to hang at an angle for viewers directly across from it.

Pros for Flat Mount

Flat mounts are relatively inexpensive and simple to install. Flat wall mounts also make the viewing area feel larger because the television is sitting flush against the wall, allowing the room to feel more spacious than tilt mounts, which force the television to come out from the wall slightly.

Cons for Flat Mount

If the television is mounted anywhere higher or lower than the same height the people viewing it, the viewing angle of the television will be slightly off. Also, because the flat wall mount is placed flush against the wall, certain television cables and power cords may be difficult to insert and remove.
