Connect A Ceiling Lamp

Installing a ceiling lamp is a job many homeowners can do.

One simple way to upgrade the interior of your home is to replace the lighting fixtures, like ceiling lamps. Dated fixtures can give your home an outdated look and many homes have cheap "contractor grade" fixtures. With proper precautions and simple tools this is definitely a do-it-yourself job -- there's no need to spend money to hire an electrician to do it for you.

Instructions

1. Turn the power off to the circuit you'll be working on at the circuit breaker box. Never work on a live electrical circuit.

2. Cut off any excess wire and remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the black and white wires at the lamp installation location with your wire strippers. Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the black and white wires on the new lamp.

3. Place the bare ends of the white wires together and parallel with each other. Slide a wire nut over the ends of the bare wires and twist the nut to the right until it's firmly holding the two wires together.

4. Place the bare ends of the black wires together and parallel with each other. Slide a wire nut over the ends of the bare wires and twist the nut to the right until it's firmly holding the two wires together.
