Troubleshoot A Hunter Alcove Ceiling Fan Remote Control

The Hunter Fan Co., founded in 1886, is a popular manufacturer of ceiling, bathroom and portable fans. The Hunter Alcove II is a casual, small room ceiling fan that features an iron finish with dark walnut or cherry blades. Hunter offers a universal remote, which can be programmed to operate both the ceiling fan and the light fixture. If the remote to your Hunter Alcove fan malfunctions, these simple troubleshooting tips may have it working again in minutes.

Instructions

1. Disconnect the power to your Hunter Alcove ceiling fan before attempting to troubleshoot the remote control.

2. Remove the remote's battery compartment cover. Remove the 12-volt alkaline battery from the battery compartment to reveal the remote DIP switches. Discard the battery.

3. Locate the corresponding DIP switches on the back of the receiver unit. Set the receiver DIP switches to match the DIP switches inside the remote's battery compartment.

4. Remove any corrosive residue that may have accumulated on the remote's battery contacts to make it easier for the battery to complete a full electrical circuit. Dip one end of a cotton swab into a small amount of white vinegar. Rub the battery contacts with the damp end of the cotton swab until any corrosive residue has been removed. Dry the inside of the battery compartment with a tissue.

5. Insert a new 12-volt alkaline battery into the remote's battery compartment; observe the polarity indicated inside the battery compartment. Replace the battery compartment cover.

6. Restore the power to your Hunter Alcove ceiling fan and reprogram the fan to accept commands from the remote control. Press and release the remote's "Hi," "Med" and "Lo" buttons within 20 seconds of restoring the power to the fan.
