Replace A Tolomeo Switch

If your Tolomeo lamp is out of warranty, you can replace the switch yourself. All you need is a screwdriver, a replacement switch and basic knowledge of electrical connections. Lamps are not complex and consist basically of an electrical wire with a plug on one end, and the other end attached to a switch. The switch completes the electrical circuit, which allows electricity to flow through the switch.

Instructions

1. Unplug the Tolomeo lamp from the wall outlet. If the lamp has been illuminated, wait until the lamp cools before attempting repairs. Remove the lamp to a clear area like a table where you can make repairs.

2. Remove the bulb and then unscrew the diffuser (lamp shade) from the socket. Unscrew the socket to expose the switch and the wiring. You can disassemble these parts with your hand.

3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws that attach the switch to the electrical wires. One wire is attached by a screw on the left side, and a second wire is attached by a screw on the right side of the switch. Discard the damaged switch.

4. Attach the electrical wires to the new switch. Place the exposed end of one side of the electrical wire under the screw on one side of the switch and tighten the screw. Repeat for the other side of the new switch.

5. Reassemble the lamp parts. Replace the bulb. Plug the lamp into a wall outlet and test the switch.
