The roof vent of a recreational vehicle offers an opening for improved air circulation. Vents have a plastic or fiberglass cover that is translucent and allows some extra light into the camper. The vent is attached to the camper by a hinge on the front edge of the vent. A screen prevents insects and other items from entering the camper interior when the roof vent is open. This screen is what usually requires cleaning.
Instructions
1. Blow loose debris--such as leaves or dead insects--from the screen with forced air from the interior of the camper. Attach the hose to the exhaust of a vacuum cleaner, if possible. If that is not possible, use a vacuum cleaner from the roof of the camper.
2. Wipe down the interior of the standard household cleaners and a damp rag.
3. Clean the exterior of the vent using household or automotive cleaners. Clean vents with bug spatters or tree sap accumulations with automotive cleaners. Follow manufacturer's label instructions when using any cleaning products.
4. Clear the roof area around the vent. Make sure the vent fits securely down on the frame when closed.
