Create Ceiling Beams
Ceiling beams draw the eye upward, making your room to look larger and more distinguished. If you want the look of wooden ceiling beams without the price tag, there are options. You can treat molding trim so it looks like the perfect ceiling beams to use in your own home but that is typically 200 percent less than actual molding. Plastic foam beams are easy to install and easy to create.
Instructions
1. Glue plastic foam molding trim pieces together to achieve the length you need. Use construction adhesive to make a good seal between the two pieces. If you need to cut a piece so it fits perfectly in the space you have, you can use a knife, a hot wire or a saw.
2. Paint each piece of plastic foam molding trim with synthetic plaster. Use a paintbrush to apply the plaster, which will dry in less than an hour. Apply a second coat to help your plastic foam molding trim be sturdier.
3. Apply a liberal amount of construction adhesive to the top of the plastic foam molding trim where it will meet the wall.
4. Press the faux ceiling beam up against your ceiling in the location you desire. Hold it in place until the construction adhesive makes a good connection so the beam stays attached to the ceiling even when you let go.
