Drop ceilings serve many purposes like concealing exposed plumbing and beams to soundproofing. Installing a drop ceiling is a moderately inexpensive way to change the appearance of a room, but sometimes can be a little drab. Painting drop ceiling tiles can brighten the space and bring a welcomed change to any room. By adding color, you can add character and change the look of your ceiling just as easily as changing the color of your wall paint.
Instructions
Removing the tiles
1. Place protective covering over any furniture.
2. Place ladder (if necessary) in place where tiles will be removed. Choose an area where the optimal number of tiles can be reached without having to move the ladder.
3. Put on protective eye wear and gloves.
4. Begin removing the tiles by pushing upward on the tile and angling it sideways to remove it. Be careful not to break the tile.
5. Place all removed tiles side by side on a drop cloth.
6. Paint the tiles using the foam roller. Depending on the texture of the tile, you may need to use a paintbrush to dab paint into crevices the roller cannot reach. Apply at least two coats of paint.
7. Paint the frame of the ceiling to match the tiles. (optional)
8. Carefully replace tiles back into the ceiling.
