Select A Ceiling Fan

A ceiling fan is a great addition to any room. It allows the room to stay cool, but also saves on energy costs in comparison to central air and window mounted air conditioners. Those interested in selecting a ceiling fan should think about the room where they want to place one and their own needs.

Instructions

1. Select a location for the ceiling fan such as the bedroom or living room. The style of ceiling fan you choose relies heavily on the type of décor in the room. For example a bright primary colored fan works well in a child's room, but not necessarily in a modern looking living room.

2. Figure out the size of your room because ceiling fans come in different sizes. A too small fan won't work well and one that's too large will keep the room too cold. In general rooms of 80 square feet or less require a 30" fan, 240 square feet of space need a 42" fan and 360 square feet need a 52" fan.

3. Consider your own needs before you start shopping. Do you need a fan with a light socket? Do you want one that saves on energy bills? Making the right choice saves you money in the long run. For example, buying a fan without lighting when you need additional lighting in the room is a big mistake.

4. Decide if you need external features as part of your ceiling fan. Fans today come with features such as a remote control or work on a switch located on the wall. These features are a little more expensive, but those who like convenience will find those features necessary.

5. Select a fan that meets all of your needs, but is also of a high quality. Buying a cheap fan to save money will actually cost you because it will need replacing within a year or two. Shopping for one that's of a better quality will ensure that you can use it for years and still be satisfied with your purchase.
