Improve Home Fan Strength

A home fan might be more powerful than you think.

A window fan in your home can do wonders for your energy bills. If you can improve the strength of your home fan, there can be significantly less time this summer season that you need to turn on your air conditioning system. Running an air conditioner takes more energy and usually costs more money than operating a home fan. This means that as the efficiency and strength of your fan improves, you will need to use less and less energy and money to cool down your home.

Instructions

1. Get a window fan that fits within your window frame. The bigger the fan, the more strength it will have when it comes to cooling your home, so get the largest model that will fit.

2. Operate window fans at night when the air outside is cooler. Place at least two fans on opposite ends of your home and run them in the evening when the temperature drops. Two fans bringing in air from opposite ends creates positive pressure to keep out hot air and bugs.

3. Keep daytime fans running only on the cooler side of your home, or the side that gets more shade and less sun.

4. Run other fans from higher locations in your home, such as on top of a shelf. This re-circulates hot air, rather than letting it sit inside your home.

5. Clean the blades of your home fan often to remove dirt and grime that can slow it down. Window cleaner and paper towels should work fine. Be sure to unplug it first.
