Hook Up Speakers In The Ceiling

If you have a surround sound system or a home entertainment system with surround sound and you want to hook up speakers in the ceiling, this is a simple task that doesn't require you to be a professional electrician or entertainment system installer. You won't need to purchase a lot of tools or spend a lot of time, since ceiling mounts for speakers are widely and inexpensively available.

Instructions

1. Figure out the proper location for each speaker. With a surround sound system, for example, one speaker is a center speaker, another is a right-side speaker and yet another is a left-side speaker. Where the speaker is connected to the system determines what speaker it is.

2. Screw a speaker ceiling mount into the ceiling for each speaker, using the drill with screwdriver bits or the screwdriver. Speaker ceiling mounts are sold online or at any electronic store and have all the necessary hardware, including screws, to install them to the ceiling and the speaker. Install the mount on the side where the speaker belongs: left side for left speaker or right side for right speaker.

3. Screw a ceiling mount onto each speaker. Most speaker ceiling mounts have one bracket that goes flush on the ceiling and another that goes flush on the speaker. The mount comes with all the hardware to install it to the speaker, including screws. Some speakers might have pre-drilled holes for the mount screws; if this is the case, then screw the mount onto the speaker using a regular screwdriver or a Phillip's head screwdriver, depending on the screw you are using.

4. Connect the speaker wires to the speaker system. If you want to hide the wires so that they are not visible, then you will need to fish the wires through the wall.
