Do Tropical Decor At Home

Tropical Decor

There are few guidelines to do tropical decor at home, with the exception it should always be warm, relaxing and inviting. Whether you prefer the more colorful Tacky Tiki look or the muted tones of a Polynesian Paradise, this article will show you a mixture of both so you can create your own individual style.

Instructions

1. You must realize tropical decor at home would not be complete without tiki masks. Find a wide variety of tiki masks available in speciality shops or on websites such as Ebay. Hang tiki masks on the wall against a plain background so they stand out.

2. Find vintage or reproduction barkcloth fabric in colorful or muted tropical prints. Use the fabric to sew a few throw pillows for the bedroom or living room to add a subtle touch of the tropics.

3. Put together your own tropical decor at home by pairing vintage sheet music with a thrift shop frame decorated in a faux leather kraft paper treatment. Lean frame against the wall with a trio of cut bamboo nearby for contrast.

4. Purchase lamp shades of rattan, wicker or split bamboo. If you can't find a tropical lamp shade, use an existing lamp and cover the shade with a scarf in a tropical print. If you opt to use a scarf, make sure the fabric is tacked to the shade and not in a position close to the bulb.

5. Add tropical decor at home by installing a ceiling fan in a tropical style. You can find ceiling fans like the one pictured at your local home improvement store and usually free advice and tips with purchase. Make this your one project of the weekend.

6. Collect colorful tiki mugs and group in odd numbered pairs. Set on a rattan and bamboo serving tray. Make a Hawaiian Mai Tai and serve to guests in tiki mugs at your next tropical luau.

7. For the ambitious do it yourselfer, install ceiling sheets made of woven coconut fronds. Another great project for tropical decor at home is to cut bamboo, secure lengths together by twisting wire and wrap near top, at the middle and near the bottom of each stalk of bamboo. (see lead picture). Attach to wall intermittently with screws.

You don't have to redo your entire home to enjoy tropical decor. Use your imagination, look at some magazines or online for more inspiration. If this fails to inspire you, watch "Blue Hawaii" again and take notes. Aloha!
