Places To Buy Box Fans Cheap

There are many stores that carry inexpensive box fans.

Box fans are an inexpensive way to keep cool in the summer. With temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit in some places, it's important to be able to keep the heat at bay. While many homes in the south have air conditioning, some in the north do not. In addition, a box fan is much less expensive than running the air conditioner. There are a few places where you can pick up an inexpensive box fan that will be sure to keep you cool in the summer heat.

Discount Stores

Wal-Mart (walmart.com) is a great place to find inexpensive home appliances, including box fans.

Wal-Mart (walmart.com) stores are located nationwide and are always an excellent place to find inexpensive box fans. Tabletop fans that are smaller than traditional box fans begin at around $15. Twenty-inch floor box fans run anywhere from $17.99 to $26.99, and can be the traditional box shape or, in the case of the more expensive fans, circular models with a little more power. Target (target.com) also has a great selection of box fans at similar prices, but they also carry a more expensive, decorative line of fans that are priced from about $25 to $50, All prices are current as of 2011.

Hardware Stores

Lowe's (lowes.com) is one of several hardware stores where you can find an inexpensive boxed fan.

Hardware stores carry almost any kind of appliance a home needs. Box fans are one such appliance that they carry in abundance and great variety. Lowe's (Lowes.com) has a large variety of electric fans, including traditional box fans, which were priced at around $17.99 in 2011 for most models. Home Depot (homedepot.com) also carries similar models at the same prices. Other hardware stores where you might find box fans include Ace Hardware (acehardware.com) and Harbor Freight (harborfreight.com).

Grocery Stores

Albertsons (Albertsons.com) has locations across the U.S. and carries box fans.

Believe it or not, many grocery stores carry small electrical appliances like blenders, coffee makers and box fans. Many of them price the box fans slightly higher than discount stores or hardware stores because of the convenience factor. Instead of having to make two stops, one for groceries and one to pick up the box fan, you'd only have to make one stop. While a little more expensive, though, they are still quite affordable.

Electronics Stores

Best Buy (bestbuy.com) is one of many electronics stores that carries box fans, but sells them for much higher prices than hardware stores, discount stores or even grocery stores.

While box fans are still affordable at electronics stores, they will probably be priced higher at these stores than anywhere else you'll find them. Home and vehicle electronics like stereos, televisions, cellular phones and video games are usually the central focus in these stores, and smaller items are marked up to make a greater profit because people usually purchase them for convenience when shopping for something else or purchase them because they have a store credit card and want to use that as a payment method.
