Square tiles add style to a ceiling.
Hanging square tiles can turn a plain ceiling into one that's visually interesting. Square ceiling tiles are made from a range of materials including Styrofoam or vinyl. Regardless of the material from which your square tiles are made, follow some basic principles when hanging them from the ceiling. Plan for an assistant to help you during the process to make things easier and faster.
Instructions
1. Clean and prepare the ceiling for installation of square tiles. Wipe it down with a damp cloth to get rid of dust. Scrape away any loose paint or ceiling texture, if necessary, with a putty knife.
2. Measure the width of the ceiling and mark the halfway point along the part where the ceiling meets the wall. Create a mark at this point on both sides of the ceiling. Have an assistant hold the end of a chalk line at one of these points, then pull the chalk line across to the other point. Snap it to create a guide mark across the center of the ceiling.
3. Turn over one of the square ceiling tiles and apply a layer of tile adhesive appropriate to the material type. Spread it evenly around with a glue roller, providing full coverage on the back of the tile. Line up the first tile on one side of the chalk line in the center of the ceiling and press it into place.
4. Continue the adhesive application process, pressing each tile in place after lining it up with the previous one. Form a line of tile spanning one side of the chalk line and extending from one side of the ceiling to the other. Start your next row on the other side of the chalk line and work your way out from there until the entire ceiling is covered with square tiles.
