Decorate A Periwinkle Blue Bedroom

According to Victorian flower symbolism, a periwinkle symbolizes early recollections and the pleasure of sweet memories, an unbeatable combination when decorating a bedroom. This delicate shade of light lavender-blue can set the tone for a soothing retreat.

Instructions

1. For a bold touch, combine periwinkle blue with red for a different twist on a nautical theme. With periwinkle blue walls as a base, add white furnishings and a solid red comforter or one that's lavished with white nautical symbols. A white ceiling fan provides cool breezes year round. Hang one white-painted boat oar on a wall. Use wide red ribbon or thick white sailing rope to tie a row of small, red-accented nautical objects to the oar.

2. White and periwinkle blue can produce a calm retreat with the right mix of furniture and accents. Install white lacquered wainscoting from the floor to halfway up the periwinkle walls. Another option is to attach low, white picket fencing on one or more walls so your periwinkle walls suggest the sky at sunrise or sunset. White wicker furnishings and white linens will freshen things up and you can add an accent color such as peach or apricot via throw pillows and wall art.

3. Fall in love with periwinkle and yellow. French country and Scandinavian modern rooms are all about pairing shades of blue with yellow, so if you like these looks, this is the palette for you. Cover the wall behind your bed with vertically striped yellow and white wallpaper, a sophisticated pairing with your periwinkle walls. Choose a patterned quilt in white and periwinkle and arrange yellow throw pillows on the bed. A yellow ceiling fan hung over your bed suggests the sun and adds a warm and utilitarian touch to the room.

4. Create a periwinkle and brown haven. Position a walnut bed against one periwinkle blue wall. Mix white into the remaining periwinkle blue paint to produce a lighter shade. Use it to paint the remaining walls. Small walnut accent lamps on side tables positioned on either side of the bed add more rich wood accents. A grid of eight walnut-framed botanical prints hung over the bed showcases the periwinkle wall. Choose a brown and white duvet and shams and your bedroom remake is complete.

5. Look at the color magic created when you hold paint cards in periwinkle and apple green together. Start with periwinkle walls and white furniture, adding cozy bedding in either a white and apple green print or solid apple green. Place glass bowls or jars of faux green silk apples on side tables. Paint a wrought-iron chandelier in apple green and hang it in the center of the room.
