Make A Space Ceiling

Images of space can be transfered to murals.

A space ceiling can provide and entertaining and educational backdrop for children's bedrooms or playrooms. Today you can install a vinyl ceiling mural of the sky at night or of a particular space scene. These giant murals sometimes feature constellations with their proper names so that children can learn to identify them. You can add glow-in-the-dark space ships and stars for the younger children so that the mural glows for a time after the lights are turned out.

Instructions

1. Clean your smooth surface ceiling using a broom to remove all dust and cobwebs. Lightly dampen a rag to wipe over the ceiling.

2. Position two tall ladders at adjacent corners along the shorter walls of the room. Lift the mural section. If your mural has several pieces make sure you lay out the pieces first so that you have the correct order of installation.

3. Peel back the backing paper evenly along the edge closest to the corner. Smooth from the center toward the corners to get your first edge straight and even. Pull the paper back and continue smoothing the mural into position. These types of murals are repositionable but it is best if you do not move it once it is in position.

4. Align your second section with the edge of your first section and butt tight the seams so that they just barely overlap. Roll a roller along the seam edge for best adhesion. Peel back the paper and smooth from the center toward the outside walls. If you get bubbles, use a sharp artist knife to prick a tiny hole to let the air out. Rub the bubble out after pricking.

5. Attach all of your mural sections. Trim off any excess mural along the edges of the walls. Go over the mural looking for bubbles or spots that aren't sticking well. Rub these down more aggressively.
