Cover Floor To Ceiling Mirrors

Old posters give your room a vintage look.


While a floor-to-ceiling mirror opens up a room and gives you plenty of reflective surfaces, it can also be a little jarring. You can constantly be surprised by movement out of the corner of your eye, or the light might hit the mirror at a bad angle, constantly blinding people coming into the room. If you cannot remove a troublesome floor-to-ceiling mirror, use different techniques to cover it, quieting the effect that the mirror has on your home.


Instructions








1. Hang one or more fabric tapestries over the mirror, using a hammer and nails to mount the fabric. A cloth tapestry with an attractive design or a decorative quilt or blanket that is large enough can hide the mirror partially or completely. For an attractively coy effect, lift up one corner of the wall hanging, and pin it, revealing a corner of the mirror.


2. Draw on the mirror with dry erase markers. Dry erase markers wipe off mirrors completely, and you can use the markers to create an attractive design on the reflective surface, partially or completely covering the mirror. This is an excellent opportunity for young children to get involved as they are allowed to essentially draw on the walls.


3. Obscure the mirror with glass decals. Glass decals can create a frosted mirror effect on the mirrors, shrinking their effect, or you can choose completely opaque decals that cover part or all of the mirror itself. A glass decal can be removed in a few seconds whenever you want the mirror back.


4. Use a pressure-sensitive adhesive putty to affix posters to the mirrors. Place up a large poster surrounded by smaller posters, or simply use posters of a similar size to create a patchwork quilt effect over the mirror. Because the posters are separate from one another, this makes them an excellent choice for floor-to-ceiling mirrors mounted over folding glass doors.
