Measure A Ceiling Diffuser

The location of air diffusers varies from home to home. The most typical locations where you will find them are in the floor, in the baseboard area of the wall or in the ceiling. When located in the ceiling, the diffuser is fastened with screws to a sheet metal boot above the ceiling. If you need to replace the ceiling diffuser, you must make sure to get the right-size diffuser so it fits properly.

Instructions

1. Set up a ladder below the opening in the drywall ceiling where your diffuser will be installed. Climb the ladder.

2. Measure the length and width of the opening in the ceiling, using a tape measure.

3. Obtain a supply-air diffuser that matches the measurements you wrote down. The outside flange of the correct diffuser will be larger than your measurements. This is so the opening in the ceiling is completely covered and looks finished when the ceiling diffuser is installed.
