Hang An Lcd Tv From The Ceiling

Mounting large displays has become a lot easier since the introduction of LCD and plasma displays. A few things must still be considered when mounting a display to the ceiling. Weight is still an issue, and anything that is mounted to a ceiling needs to tied into a ceiling joist (or stud). Very large displays (over 50 in.) should be wall mounted or set on a stand. Fortunately, most quality displays built in the last four years should be mountable using standard VESA "Flat Display Mounting Interface" hardware. This guide is intended for mounts that use lag screws to attach to the ceiling.

Instructions

Selecting a Location

1. Find a suitable location to install the mounting system. Keep in mind the size of the television and the positioning capabilities of the mount.

2. Locate a suitable ceiling joist using the stud finder.

3. If a suitable joist cannot be found, you may want to cut into the ceiling drywall and install a crosspiece between the two joists closest to your chosen location.

Attach the Mounting Hardware

4. You will need to create a template from the mounting hardware for layout and hole location. Use tracing paper on the base plate of the mount. Trace the edges of the base plate, and all of the holes. Use this as a template.

5. Using the template, cut a hole in the drywall to match the outline of the mounting hardware. This allows a tighter fit between the hardware and the joist and increases the strength of the mount.

6. Use a 1/8-inch drill bit and the template to drill a starter hole for each lag screw.

7. Line up the mount base plate with the starter holes. Using the Phillips bit, drive the lag screws into their respective holes.

Mounting the Display

8. Remove any cover on the display that may cover the VESA mount points.

9. Lift the monitor into position. This may require two people.

10. Attach the bolts one by one. Use the manual bit driver to tighten them.

11. Test the mount by tugging gently on the display. Have someone ready to catch it when you do this.

12. Test the positioning of the display. Make sure that it clears obstructions in all directions.
