Tower Fan Vs Regular Fan

A large industrial floor fan.

Shoppers may find it difficult to decide whether to choose a tower fan or a standard fan. Both seem to offer the same features and both seem to be pretty cost efficient; however, the tower fan and regular fan are very different. They do share some of the same features, but each offers its own benefit.

Price Range

Tower fans range in price from the standard $50 unit to $300 for the high-end remote-controlled product. Regular fan prices range from as low as $2 for a mini hand-held fan to larger metal-blade fans that surpass $100. All prices are as of 2010.

Convenience

The tower fan's oscillating unit makes it a convenient way to circulate cool air around a room. Some regular fans come with a remote to set the speed and you can set a timer for the fan to shut off.

Air Purification

There are some tower fans that have filters in them to remove pollen and dust in the air. Regular fans don't have the benefit of filtering allergens.

Cooling

Tower fans can cool off small- to medium-sized rooms. Regular floor fans come as large as 36 inches, which can blow out a larger amount of cool air.
