Change the operation of your remote-controlled fan to a wall switch.
Having a ceiling fan with a remote control is very convenient -- until the remote no longer works. Being able to operate the ceiling fan once again from the switch in the wall allows you to keep your ceiling fan and not have to replace it. You may have to go back to pulling on chains, but that is a much simpler solution than buying and installing another fan. The best part is that you don't have to remove the fan from the ceiling to make the changes.
Instructions
1. Turn off the electricity to the ceiling fan by turning off its breaker in the main electrical panel.
2. Take off the ceiling fan canopy. The canopy attaches to the ceiling and covers the ceiling fan hanging bracket and the ceiling fan electrical box. Removing the canopy exposes the wiring and the remote receiver. The canopy is attached by four or more screws.
3. Locate the ceiling fan remote receiver. The receiver will be either circular or rectangular. A set of wires is attached at each end or opposite of each other, depending on the receiver's shape. One side has three wires -- a white, a black and a wire labeled "light kit." The other side has a
4. Disconnect the remote receiver. Locate the wire connectors that connect all the wires from the receiver to the ceiling fan. Untwist each connector to remove it from the wires. There will be a total of five connections. Pull the wires apart after you have removed the connectors. Remove the receiver from the ceiling fan.
5. Wire the ceiling fan to the house
6. Replace the ceiling fan canopy. Attach it using the screws you removed in Step 2.
7. Turn on the electricity to the ceiling fan by turning on its breaker in the main electrical panel.
