Smallest Ceiling Fans

Small ceiling fans are available in 16-inch, 18-inch, 24-inch and 28-inch widths.

Ceiling fans are beneficial in helping to keep warm air near your ceiling and move cool, circulated air in the open spaces of your rooms. Fans in the traditional 52-inch and 48-inch sizes are appropriate for most spaces. If you have a small space, your design choices can bit a bit more limited. However, you can find ceiling fans from specialty vendors in 16-inch, 18-inch, 24-inch and 28-inch widths that are suitable for small rooms.

24-Inch Ceiling Fans

The smallest prefabricated traditionally designed ceiling fans come in a total length of 24 inches. The fans are readily available from hardware and building supply stores, lighting retailers and home and garden stores. These models tend to feature three fan blades. Small fans come with as many bells and whistles as larger fans, but in fewer designs. Choose from models with multiple speeds, light fixtures or remote-control access. Install 24-inch fans in bathrooms, closets or halls where ceiling space is very limited.

28-Inch Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans that measure 28 inches are appropriate for small bedrooms or other rooms in your home and are available from home and hardware stores, as well as lighting retailers. There is also a vast number available online. Some small fan manufacturers sell this size as a 29-inch, due to the inclusion of a slightly larger center base. For the most part, 28-inch fans feature three fan blades; however, some companies do manufacture a four-blade fan in this size.

Custom Ceiling Fans

If you can't seem to locate a small ceiling fan that suits your needs or your vision for your room, consider contacting a vendor that will make a custom ceiling fan for you. These fans can be made to your size specifications and include lights, remote-control access and any other features that will make the fan perfect for your small space. Since custom ceiling fans are not likely returnable unless they are defective, it is best to find a local vendor. Check services available from local lighting supply stores that specialize in lighting and ceiling fans. Some custom vendors can be found online as well. If you are unsure of the necessary specifications, consult the company's sales or design professional who can guide you to the right custom fan. When you discuss a small fan with a designer, be certain to specify total fan width measured from the end of one fan blade directly across the center to the far end of the opposite fan blade. Individual fan blade length can be determined from there.

Small Directional Ceiling-Mounted Fans

Directional ceiling-mounted fans are the newest of the small ceiling-mounted fans. The design is a ceiling-mounted take on the traditional freestanding oscillating fan. These fans, manufactured in 16-inch and 18-inch three-blade models oscillate, thus allowing the breeze to be directed directly downward or tilted toward specific areas of your room. These fans can be found online and from retailers that specialize in lighting and fans. Being a new design, they tend to be pricey. The fans come in retro caged-metal and modern wooden designs. The design of these fans is not applicable to every ceiling, so consult with a fan professional prior to making your purchase.
