A pull-up bar, which is also called a chin-up bar, is a piece of exercise equipment that increases upper body strength. Once the bar is mounted inside a doorway, you grasp it with both hands to raise your body up to the bar. There are two types of bars, those that are removable and those that are mounted to the door, wall or ceiling using screws. When installing screw mounted bars, it is important to drill proper holes so that the bar is secure.
Instructions
1. Turn on a stud finder and place it against the wall above the door frame or against the ceiling if you are mounting the bar there. Move the stud finder over the wall until it beeps or lights up, which means you have located a wall stud or a ceiling joist. Mark the stud or joist location with a pencil and locate at least one more stud.
2. Hold one of the mounting brackets up to the wall or ceiling and place it over one of the marked studs. Use a pencil to mark the location of the screw holes in the bracket so that you will know where to drill the holes. Repeat the process to mark the remaining screw hole locations for the other brackets. If your bar does not have mounting brackets, lift the entire bar in place to mark the holes.
3. Insert a 3/16- to 1/4-inch drill bit into a drill and create a hole in each of the marked screw hole locations. Push the drill bit all the way into the surface so that the hole is at least 3 inches deep. If you have a metal ceiling, insert a 3/4-inch diameter cobalt drill bit into the drill.
4. Repeat the process to drill holes in all of the remaining screw hole locations.
