Since Chrysler vans are driven by a lot of families, a DVD player can be a good idea. Installing one in a van yourself is never an easy task, but a flip-down model can be slightly easier since you don't need to worry about cutting into any seats. Even so, you might want to consider if the risks of installing such a DVD player are worth avoiding the cost of having it done professionally.
Instructions
1. Inspect the ceiling on your Chrysler van. It needs to have a board or sheet between the headliner and the upholstery. Newer models should have a metal sheet in this location, while older models can require you to add a sheet of your own.
2. Peel away the upholstery on the ceiling if it doesn't contain a metal sheet. You might need to cut the fabric to do so. Insert a metal, wood or plastic sheet below the headliner, glue it to the fabric with adhesive spray and glue or staple the upholstery back in place.
3. Choose a location to mount the DVD player. A prime location will be one closest to the center of the ceiling where both the middle and back seats can get a good view. Keep in mind that you may have to take the overhead light's location into account.
4. Mount the player onto the ceiling. The player will come with its own mounting screws, which may be built into the main base. Make sure you screw these screws into the sheet behind the upholstery.
5. Route the wiring for the DVD player along the ceiling (possibly under the upholstery), through the trim panels, under the seat if needed and through a hole in the firewall. In most cases, the red wire connects to the starter's wiring harness, the yellow one under the battery's positive terminal and the black one to a ground like a screw on the chassis.
