Change An Led Fan

Add an LED fan to your computer case for stylish cooling.

Cooling fans are an integral part of your desktop computer. They keep air flowing over hot components, assuring that your software performs at its peak efficiency. Gaming computers need a lot of cooling power, and many enthusiasts choose to trick out the interior of their cases with LED lights on just about every component including the CPU cooler, the case and the case fans. To swap out a fan, you'll need basic knowledge of desktop hardware upgrades and a spare 80mm or 120mm fan equipped with flashing LEDs.

Instructions

1. Turn your computer off and remove all power and data cables. Place the computer on a clean, sturdy table with the access panel (usually the left side) facing up.

2. Use your Philips-head screwdriver to remove the two or three screws holding the access panel in place on the back of the computer. Place the screws in a cup or bag for safekeeping. Slide the access panel back and set it aside.

3. Remove all power and data cords obscuring your view of the case fan you wish to remove. Remember where you removed these cables from for reassembly later.

4. Use your screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the fan in place. Unplug the four-prong power adapter from the power supply. Pull the fan out of the computer case.

5. Place the new fan in the case's fan slot and screw it down. Make sure that the blades are pointed in the right direction. Attach the four-prong power adapter to the power supply. Reconnect the power and data cables.

6. Place the access panel back on the case and screw it into place. Put your computer back in its normal position and reconnect all power and data cables. Turn your computer on and listen for any potential rubbing or snags the fan may have developed after installation.
