Decorate Ceiling Mount Curtain Rods

Curtain rods are functional, but they aren't always fashionable. They can look out of place if you have a highly decorative curtain and a bland rod to secure it. Decorating the curtain rod is a simple task, but you need to consider its stability. This is especially true for ceiling-mounted curtain rods. If your decorations cause problems with your ceiling mounts, you could end up with a gaping hole in your ceiling. Take the weight limitations of your curtain rod into consideration while decorating.

Instructions

1. Purchase new hardware for your curtain rod. You can buy decorative hardware pieces of cast iron or wood to help make the curtain rod attractive.

2. Lay your curtain rods on a tarp and go over them with a fresh coat of paint. Sometimes a new coat of spray paint is sufficient to pull the rods out of a style rut. Let the rods dry fully before you do anything else with them.

3. Untwist the ends of your curtain rods and replace them with new, more decorative finials (curtain rod ends). You can purchase new ends that are more decorative or you can create your own finials. For example, you can insert a bow of petrified wood or a deer antler into the sides to create an interesting finial.

4. Switch to curtains that hang from the rod either by loops of fabric or clips. They should leave some space between the body of the curtain and the actual rod. String garland around the rod (or ribbon if you aren't a fan of garland), weaving it through the space between the rod and the curtain.

5. Pull one side of the garland so the excess hangs down the curtain equally on each side. Wrap the bendable metal stem of fake flowers around the rod as well. Use the stem to secure the flowers in place and bend them so they face the direction you desire.
