Measure The Size Of A Ceiling Fan

How big a fan can you fit in that room? Get out the tape measure and let's find out.


Getting the right-size ceiling fan ensures that it will serves its purpose as an energy-reducing air conditioner that fits into the space where it's installed. A fan that's too small for a room won't provide good air circulation; one that's too large may swing a little too much and damage the walls around it. The fan size and the room size should agree.

1. Put the fan on a table or a flat, open space.


2. Stretch the tape measure from the end of a fan blade across the fan engine to the end of the opposite blade.


3. Note that measurement. You can use that size to determine where the fan will fit inside your home.
