Types Of Industrial Fans

Industrial fans are used to move stagnant air, to cool the air and to reduce dampness in large industrial areas. This type of fan would be found in large warehouses, plants, distribution centers and other large industrial buildings where temperature and humidity needs to be controlled. There are many types of industrial fans, which may be mounted in the roof or walls of the building or freestanding models that can be placed in areas that need even more air circulation.

Ceiling Fans

Industrial ceiling fans are just like residential ceiling fans in that they mount to the ceiling of the building but they will have larger blades and motors that are capable of moving much more air faster. Industrial ceiling fans are not decorative and will have more stable medal blades instead of decorative wood blades that are found on residential ceiling fans. This type of fan is primarily designed to add thermal comfort and to add ventilation to large areas of a building.

Wall Fans

Wall fans are a great choice for industrial use because they are very efficient and do not take up precious floor space because they are built into the wall of the building. Wall fans are very powerful and are able to move a lot of air. The power of the wall fan comes from two parts. First, the blades are designed like those of a jet engine and secondly they have large direct drive motors. The drive mechanism can be either a belt or a drive-shaft. Another advantage of wall fans is the safety factor. In most cases, these fans are installed well above the height of the employees and will have a sturdy mesh grill over the blades all of which make them very safe to use in any type of building.

Pedestal Fans

Pedestal fans set on the floor of a shop. They are large powerful fans that move a lot of air but the main attribute of this type of fan is that it is mobile. Pedestal fans can be moved from one place to another depending on where air circulation is most needed at any particular time. As the name implies this type of fan is attached to a tall pedestal, which allows for the height of the fan to be adjusted. Many models also have an adjustable head, which allows the fan to be turned 360 degrees.

Misting Fans

Misting fans are relatively new items and can be a great type of fan for certain situations. Misting fans are fans that are connected to a water supply and put out a fine mist of water along with the airflow of the fan. This type of fan is great for areas that have high temperatures because the water adds a good extra cooling effect when coupled with the air movement of the fan. The drawback of this type of fan is that it cannot be around anything that can be damaged by water. Misting fans can be used to great effect in airs that are not air-conditioned.

Floor Fans

As the name says, floor fans set on the floor. This type of fan will take up more floor space than a pedestal fan, but the advantage is that they come in many more sizes than pedestal fans. Floor fans come is sizes that are about the same as a residential floor fan all the way to huge fans that are as powerful as wall fans. The biggest advantage floor fans have over wall fans is that the airflow can be directed at a much more precise area, and like the pedestal fans, they are mobile.
