Diy Hardwired Ceiling Lamp Drum Shade

A drum light fixture gets its name from its resemblance to a marching band drum. Instead of having a tapered top, the entire shade is circular with an open top that fits over the light fixture. The drums work well on both free-standing lights as well as hardwired light fixtures on the ceiling. Instead of buying a drum shade for your ceiling fixture, consider making one using paper and colors that match your other décor.

Instructions

1. Lay one of the wooden embroidery hoops on the table and wrap a tape measure all the way around it to measure the circumference. Note the measurement and add 2 inches to allow for overlap.

2. Open a roll of wallpaper with the finished side down and place a heavy object at each end to hold it down. Use the tape measure and a pencil to draw a rectangle on the paper that is the width you determined previously and 8 inches tall. Cut along the pencil line carefully using the scissors.

3. Apply adhesive to the back of the wallpaper using a craft glue stick and then turn it glue side down and press it onto a piece of white poster board. Cut around the perimeter of the wall paper again. The poster board adds sturdiness to the wallpaper.

4. Lay the wallpaper face down and apply a bead of craft glue along the entire top edge. Place one wooden embroidery hoop in the center of the wallpaper directly on top of the glue. Wrap the sides of the wallpaper up around the ring and secure them with office clips at 3- to 4-inch intervals.

5. Apply additional glue to half of the vertical flap and press it down. Do not glue the entire flap down.

6. Apply another bead of glue along the inside rim of the shade and insert the other wooden embroidery hoop into the other end. Once you secure that end with clips, glue the remainder of the vertical flap down.

7. Lay a clear, plastic, fluorescent light panel on the table and place the drum shade on top of it. Trace around it with a dry-erase marker and then set the shade aside. Cut along the marker line using a sharp utility knife and then complete the cut using scissors.

8. Insert the round cutout into the top of the drum fixture and slide it down until it rests on the lower wooden embroidery hoop.

9. Screw three small eye screws into the inside rim of the top wooden embroidery hoop, spacing them equal distances apart.
