Install Garage Ceiling Vents

Venting your garage is much like venting your attic. In order for the space to remain healthy, you need the flow of air to be constant. If your garage is detached from your home or has its own roof, you can install exhaust vents into the roof to aid in the flow of air. Proper airflow keeps the temperature in your garage constant without a buildup of cold or hot air.

Instructions

1. Use the ladder to climb up onto your garage's roof. Use caution when working on a roof.

2. Pry off the shingles over a 1-by-1-foot section of your roof. Measure how large of an opening you need for the exhaust fan. The hole should be ¼ inch larger than the sides of the vent for a proper fit. Draw a circle on the roof in the size you need for the vent.

3. Poke a few holes in the outline with the jigsaw. Use the jigsaw to cut out the hole for the vent in the roof.

4. Place the exhaust vent into the hole in the roof. Lower the vent pipe into the hole. Hammer the nails into the collar on the vent pipe to hold it in place.

5. Place the shingles around the collar of the vent and nail them back to the roof.
