Hunter offers over 420 ceiling fans and more than 45 light kits that attach to the ceiling fans, as of 2010. Hunter makes light kits specifically for its fans and strongly suggests installing only Hunter light kits on Hunter ceiling fans to avoid the risk of electrical shock. Adding a light kit to a Hunter ceiling fan is not much different from adding a light kit to any other ceiling fan except for the colors of the electrical wire. Make your Hunter ceiling fan unique by choosing a light kit that fits your style.
Instructions
1. Turn off the power to the Hunter ceiling fan by turning off its breaker at the main electrical panel.
2. Remove the switch housing cover plate from the Hunter ceiling fan by loosening the three screws that hold it to the fan motor. The switch housing is at the bottom of the ceiling fan beneath the fan blades.
3. Remove the knockout plug from the bottom of the cover plate and attach the switch housing cover plate to the light kit. Thread the nipple and wires from the light kit through the knockout at the bottom of the cover plate and secure it with a lock nut provided with the light kit mounting hardware. The nipple is a short hollow pipe that has threads running down its entire length.
4. Wire the light kit to the Hunter ceiling fan. Locate the two wires from the ceiling fan: One is white, and the other is black with a white stripe. Connect the black wire from the light kit to the black wire with a white stripe from the ceiling fan using an orange wire connector. Repeat this connection for the white wire from the ceiling fan and a white wire from the light kit.
5. Reattach the switch housing cover plate to the ceiling fan with the three screws you removed in Step 2.
6. Install the light shades and light bulbs. Turn the breaker back on in the main electrical panel that supplies electricity to the Hunter ceiling fan.
