Cut Recessed Ceiling Tiles

Cut Recessed Ceiling Tiles

Recessed ceilings are typically installed to cover imperfections in room ceilings while lowering the room's overall height. Cutting 2-by-4-foot recessed ceiling tiles to size will enable you to use the tiles in a 2-by-2-foot ceiling tile grid. This can save you a lot of money because you will only need to purchase half the amount of ceiling tiles to finish the entire ceiling.

Instructions

1. Lay the ceiling tile on a flat surface. If you need to remove the tile from a ceiling grid, simply push up on the center of the tile and angle it down through the grid on one end.

2. Measure the direct center length of the 2-by-4-foot tiles, which will separate the tile into two 2x2-foot tiles. This is done by measuring in 2-foot along the 4-foot length of the tile. Mark the 2-foot dimension on the opposing sides of the tile.

3. Line the straight edge up to each mark drawn. This will allow you to cut the tile straight across.

4. Cut the tile into two sections using the utility knife. Press the blade against the straight edge and drag it from one side mark until you cut across to the opposite side.

5. Fold the tile away from you across the cut line and cut away any remaining connection. This will permanently detach the two sections of the tile.
