Draw ceiling designs to communicate specifically what you wanti in a room.
Most ceiling plans used in professional architecture are reflected ceiling plans (RCP). This ceiling design technique is drawn from the perspective of looking down onto the room from above. It includes all components which appear on the ceiling of any room. A design drawn using RCP enables architects and builders to ensure that room elements align properly. Whether you are building a new home or simply redesigning your old one, learning draw a ceiling design is a useful tool. Communicate more clearly with the contractors using a self-made RCP and end up with the room you always imagined.
Instructions
1. Draw a ceiling outline on graph paper using a ruler for all straight lines. The ceiling is drawn in the same shape as the room it covers. Draw from the perspective of looking down on the ceiling from above. It is not important that the drawing is to scale, but it needs to be proportionally correct.
2. Position any ceiling elements in their proper locations on the design. Ceiling elements include anything which touches the ceiling: lighting, molding, skylights, speakers, and the like. Room partitions which touch the ceiling are also included on the layout. Label all elements clearly.
3. Indicate graphically, and with a label, what materials the ceiling is made of.
4. Create a lighting legend to accompany the ceiling design. The legend shows a drawing of each lighting fixture and includes specifics for the electrical engineer, such as the the model name and number, the quantity of bulbs needed, total wattage, and the like.
5. Write all measurements on their corresponding locations on the design, including length, width, and varying heights.
6. Add general notes to the document. This section encompasses any details which don't appear in the ceiling design. Details may include contractor requirements, mounting instructions and specific installation techniques. Including this section helps cut down on the amount of verbal instruction required and ensures that your specific needs are communicated clearly.
