Turn A Ceiling Chandelier Into A Swag Light

All home projects require caution and attention to detail. Turning your chandelier into a swag light is not the easiest project, but it can be done. Changing one light fixture for another is one of those tasks that needs detailed instructions that you can follow accurately. All you need are a few tools, kits, and remember to turn off the electricity before beginning.

Instructions

Prepare Installation for the Swag Chandelier

1. Strip 1 inch of wire coating from each wire hanging from the ceiling outlet.

2. Connect the wires to the electrical cord that came with your swag lamp kit, and be sure to connect them to their corresponding colors. If there are 1 red and 1 blue wire for each, connect both red wires and connect both blue wires.

If there are no colors, be sure to connect positive to positive and negative to negative.

3. Insulate the wires with the wire caps to make sure they do not tangle or come loose.

4. Place the cord cover over the wires, and thread the cord through the chain of your swag lamp kit.

5. Knock on the ceiling and locate a stud so you can insert your first hook. Screw that hook into the ceiling, and then locate the area closest to the wall where the electrical outlet is installed. Screw in your second hook there.

Hang the Chandelier

6. Hang the chandelier from the first hook you installed. Make sure it supports the weight of the chandelier so it does not fall down.

7. Hang the excess electrical cord over the second hook, making sure no chains are hanging low enough to get caught on something, or someone.

8. Install all of the light bulbs required for your swag lighting.

9. Plug in the chandelier.

10. Plug in the electrical cord and turn the chandelier on.
