A combination switch can contol your bathroom exhaust fan, heater and the light, all in one.
A combination light fan heater in the bathroom will keep you warm when you come out of the shower. The combination fan heater light would need three switches to control the three different functions. This would take up a lot of space. A combination switch is used when there is limited space. It controls three functions all in one device.
Instructions
1. Turn the power off to the circuit. Remove the plastic sheeting off the cables and strip from the end 1/2 inch of the installation off the red, black and white wires.
2. Using wire nuts, connect all of the white wires together and connect the uninsulated ground wires together. Connect a 6-inch piece of uninsulated wire, called a "pigtail," with the other ground wires, if the switch box is metal, and screw the other end of the wire to the metal box. Push all of the white and ground wires inside to the back of the box.
3. Connect the black feed wire to the black wire connected to the yellow wire in the combination light fan heater, then connect the two wires to the black wire by itself on the switch. The yellow wire controls the light in the fan heater.
4. Connect the other black wire that is connected to the black wire in the combination light fan heater to the other black wire on the switch.
5. Connect the red wire that is connected to the red wire in the combination light fan heater to the red wires next to the black wire on the switch. The red wire controls the heater in the combination light fan heater
6. Connect the red wire that is connected to the blue wire in the combination light fan heater to the red wires on end of the switch. The blue wire controls the fan in the combination light fan heater.
7. Secure the switch to the electrical box with screws that were provided with the switch. Install the cover plate to the switch. Turn on the power to the circuit. Test it with a voltage meter.
