Install Outside Speakers

Summer is the perfect time for backyard barbecues and family gatherings, and if you love listening to music while you are entertaining guests in your backyard, installing outdoor speakers is the way to go. By installing outdoor speakers, you will no longer have to crank the stereo in the house so you can hear it outside.

Instructions

1. Examine the outside walls of your house or garage to determine the best placement for your outdoor speakers. You will want them placed in an area above normal traffic, as you do not want you or your guests bumping into them. If placing them above traffic is not an option, you will want to place them in an area that does not get a great deal of traffic.

2. Go inside your house or garage and mark with a pencil the area on the inside wall that corresponds with the area on the outside wall where the speakers will hang.

3. Use a long 1/4-inch drill bit on your mark to drill a hole through the wall to the outside. Do this for each speaker. These are the holes through which you will run the speaker wire.

4. Run speaker wire from your stereo and out through the holes you have drilled. You will want to run the wire in an inconspicuous place, such as where the ceiling and wall meet. This will be more aesthetically pleasing, and you will not have to worry about bumping into or tripping over the wire.

5. Use a Phillips or flat-head screwdriver to install the mounting brackets that came with your speakers. If your speakers did not come with mounting brackets, they most likely have holes manufactured into the backs, so you will need only one or two mounting screws on which to hang each speaker.

6. Install the wiring into the connectors on the backs of the speakers and hang the speakers on the mounting brackets or screws.
