Lay Armstrong Commercial Flooring

Armstrong designs and manufactures cabinets, ceilings and flooring. The company is based in Lancaster, Pa. and was established in 1860. Armstrong focuses on innovative and environmentally sustainable products and offers a variety of both residential and commercial products. Armstrong's commercial laminate flooring product lines include Premium Collection, Premium Lustre Collection and Traditional Collection. Each of Armstrong's commercial laminate flooring products is installed in a similar manner; the only difference is how the individual planks lock together. Lock&Fold is an Armstrong patented feature that allows the planks to be connected in two simple steps.

Instructions

1. Determine if the current sub-floor is appropriate for the Armstrong commercial flooring. The commercial laminate flooring can be installed over concrete, wood sub-floors, underlayment boards, wood flooring, ceramic and resilient tile, and vinyl sheet flooring.

2. Lay down the Armstrong underlayment, starting at the wall and moving outward. The Armstrong underlayment provides a moisture barrier, helps to correct minor sub-flooring variations and reduces in-room noise.

3. Place the spacers. Use the spacers along the wall to keep a 1/4" to 1/2" expansion allowance between the planks and the wall. Expansion space is necessary because the planks will expand and shrink due to weather, humidity and moisture.

4. Place the first row of planks on the floor. The tongue side should face the wall. Depending on the type of planks you are using, connect them using the traditional technique or the Armstrong patented Lock&Fold technique. If the planks are the Lock&Fold style, simply push the planks together and snap them into place. If the planks are of another style, angle the short ends and push down to lock them together. If necessary, trim the ends so that the plank fits close to the wall, leaving 1/4" to 1/2" for expansion.

5. Lay the remaining rows of planks, staggering the end joints 8" apart. Connect planks using the appropriate technique, either the traditional method or the Lock&Fold. The Lock&Fold technique for this step is the same as described previously. If you are using the traditional planks, you will need first to connect the row together, as explained in the previous step, then connect the new row to the last laid row by angling and pushing down. You can use a rubber mallet to tap the planks into place. Trim them as necessary.

6. Remove spacers and install trim or molding. Do not fasten trim or molding to the flooring as the flooring will expand. Instead, fasten the trim or molding to the walls.
