Wiring Instructions For A Hampton Bay Fan

Ceiling fans can be installed indoors or outdoors.

Hampton Bay produces various lighting products and ceiling fans exclusively for The Home Depot. It makes a large variety of ceiling fans that need to be wired to the ceiling box so the fan works correctly. Wiring directions for Hampton Bay fans are the same regardless of which model you have. With the right directions and tools you can quickly wire Hampton Bay fans safely.

Instructions

1. Turn off the power to the ceiling box where the fan will be wired. Turn off the switch on the wall and turn off the circuit breaker to the room.

2. Strip off the ends of all the wires coming from the fan and the electrical ceiling box. Use the wire stripper to remove the jacket from the wires, leaving about 1/2 an inch from each end of the wire bare.

3. Wire the black and blue wire from the fan with the black wire from the electrical ceiling box. Twist the ends of the three wires together and secure them by screwing on a wire nut.

4. Twist together the white cable from the fan to the white cable from the electrical box. Secure both wires with the wire nut.

5. Connect the green wire from the fan to either the green cable or the bare copper cable on the electrical box. If your electrical box does not have a green wire or bare copper cable, it should have a green screw on the electrical box; secure this green wire by wrapping it around the green screw. Tighten the screw in place with the screwdriver.

6. Finish installing the fan so it is securely fasten according to the directions on the manual for your fan. Turn on the circuit breaker and switch and proceed to test the fan. If the fan does not work, turn off the power again and check for any loose wires.
