Cut Plastic Ceiling Panels

Plastic ceiling panels need to be cut to fit areas of the ceiling that are not the right size for full sheets. Cuts are also required around pipes, vents and light fixtures. A smooth, clean cut can be made with the proper tools, to give a professionally installed look to your new ceiling.

Instructions

1. Measure the ceiling space requirements, and mark the ceiling panel with pencil lines for cutting.

2. Test the cutting tool on a scrap piece before cutting a good ceiling panel. If using tin snips, the plastic panel may be too brittle and crack or too soft and stretch.

3. Cut straight along marks with a hack saw or tin snips, for straight lines. Do not use tin snips for hard plastic. Cut with the finished side up.

4. Drill a hole in the waste area, for irregularly shaped areas to be cut with a jab saw.

5. Place jab saw into drilled hole. Slowly cut along lines in the plastic ceiling panel.
