Use Glidden Ceiling Paint

Cover the edge of fixtures with painter's tape before painting the ceiling.

Glidden ceiling paint has a flat sheen made specifically for painting ceilings. It has a pink tone when wet and turns white in approximately a half hour when it dries. This makes it easier to see that the entire ceiling is painted since you can see what you have painted when applying a white flat paint over an existing white flat paint.

Instructions

1. Remove as much furniture and loose items from the room as possible. Cover remaining furniture and the floor with drop cloths.

2. Remove light fixtures if needed, or cover the rim next to the ceiling with painter's tape. Place the tape on the fixture so it covers the fixture plate without touching the ceiling.

3. Use a 2-inch paintbrush to apply a coat of paint approximately 3 inches wide around the perimeter of the ceiling where it meets the wall. Create a 3-inch paint border around ceiling fixtures and other obstacles.

4. Fill a paint tray to the top of the bottom section of the tray with Glidden ceiling paint.

5. Load a paint roller with paint by rolling in the paint and rolling the excess off on the section of the paint tray where ridges are built into the tray. Dip only the nap of the roller into the paint or the paint on the ends of the roller will likely drip. Screw an extension handle for a paint roller into the paint roller handle.

6. Start at one corner of the ceiling and, using a paint roller, apply a coat of paint in a zig-zag pattern on a 4-foot by 4-foot section. Repeat with a straight pattern to spread the paint evenly on the entire section. The entire section should have an even, pink tone.

7. Repeat for each subsequent section.

8. Remove the painter's tape, or reattach ceiling fixtures when the color of the entire ceiling has turned from pink to white indicating that the paint is dry.
