Make A Drum Shade Pendant

Drum shade pendant lights are decorative and functional additions to any room. They provide overhead illumination anywhere you want accent lighting. Pendant lights generally cost hundreds of dollars, but you can easily assemble your own for a fraction of the retail cost.

Instructions

1. Purchase a drum shade. Many home decor and lamp stores carry these.

2. Buy a swag pendant light kit, also known as swag light wiring. Many hardware and home improvement stores stock these. The kit contains a cord with a socket at one end, a switch and (sometimes) ceiling hooks.

3. Pull the cord of the light through the wire at the top of the drum shade. Make sure to pull the cord from the inside of the shade up through the top, so that the socket is inside the shade.

4. Screw a light bulb into the socket.

5. Attach the ceiling hooks to the ceiling directly above where you want your lamp to hang.

6. Hang the shade pendant from the hooks, lowering it to the desired height. Plug in the light and flip the switch to illuminate the area.
