Apply Textured Prepasted Vinyl Wallpaper To Ceilings

You can purchase prepasted vinyl wallpaper that has a slight texture to mimic the feel of certain stone or wood finishes. Instead of painting your ceiling a boring white, install the wallpaper on your ceiling. Even though you will be working overhead, the process is not much different from installing wallpaper on a vertical wall. When completed, your ceiling can serve as a focal point for your room or can blend in with the wallpaper on the wall.

Instructions

1. Erect scaffolding that runs the length of the room. Scaffolding resembles two ladders with a set of boards connected between both ends. It allows you to walk the length of the room so you can reach the ceiling. The process for erecting scaffolding will differ depending on the brand of scaffolding you have. Follow the directions provided with your scaffolding to ensure you erect the scaffolding correctly. If you do not have access to scaffolding, you need two ladders and a second person to help you. If this is the case, place both ladders side by side in the corner of the room.

2. Measure the length of your ceiling that runs parallel with the longest wall in the room and then cut a piece of wallpaper to length with scissors. In many cases, you will need to create a butt joint between the ends of the wallpaper because the room is longer than your wallpaper. You can install the wallpaper across the shorter length of the room if it avoids the use of butt joints.

3. Roll the wallpaper back into a roll so you can see the paste and not the paper. Place the roll of paper into water. Refer to the packaging for the paper to determine the duration of time needed for soaking. The time will vary depending on the brand of paper.

4. Place the end of the paper onto the ceiling placed and place it in the corner so when you unroll it, the paper will run against the parallel wall.

5. Unroll approximately 12 inches of paper. Roll a wallpaper roller over the paper to remove excess water and to remove air pockets. If you have scaffolding, simply move over, unroll another 12 inches and roll away the air bubbles with the wallpaper roller. Continue this until you unroll and secure the entire roll. If you are using two ladders, have your friend, who is positioned next to you, take the roll and secure the next 12 inches of paper to the ceiling. At the same time, take your ladder and place it on the other side of your friend. When he is done, take the paper from him and unroll another 12 inches of paper. Alternate like this until you unroll and install the roll of paper.

6. Place the end of the next roll against the end of the first roll if you need to create a butt joint. Repeat the process you took for the first row.

7. Place the edge of the second row against the edge of the first row and repeat the same process you used for the first row. Repeat this process for each additional row until the ceiling is completed.
