Hanging lights cast a glow under the area in which it hangs.
The Minka Group, which produces Minka-Lavery lights, has a range of light fixtures including single-light pendants and multi-bulb chandeliers. Both lights are mounted to the ceiling and hang down from the mount. The mounts are decorative covers that mask standard ceiling electrical junction boxes. Most modern homes have preinstalled ceiling junction boxes that are masked by flat covers that you remove by unscrewing the plate. Some Minka-Lavery chandeliers are large and heavy and require a strong junction box; therefore, hire a qualified electrician to install any Minka-Lavery lights that are larger than a single pendant light.
Instructions
1. Turn off the power to the electrical junction box. Circuit breaker switches often turn off the power to the entire room so your work space may be poorly lit. Consider asking someone to help you install the light so they can shine a flashlight onto your work area.
2. Remove the junction box plate by unscrewing it from the ceiling. This process exposes the house's electrical wires, which may have caps covering the ends. Carefully remove any caps to expose the wire ends.
3. Remove the light contents from the box and assemble the fixture by covering the socket with the shade. Tighten the socket ring so the shade is firmly in place.
4. Place the light's chain hook through the hole in the center of the crossbar, which is a long metal bar that holds the light to the junction box. Place the washer and hex nut over the chain hook post that has been pushed through the cross bar and tighten the nut with an adjustable wrench.
5. Align the ends of the crossbar, which have screw openings, with the junction box screw openings. Place the assigned screws through the crossbar and into the junction box. Use a screwdriver to tighten the screws in place. This step yields the foundation in which the light hangs from.
6. Determine the number of chain links needed to hang the fixture at your desired height. Remove unneeded chain links by prying them open with needle-nose pliers at the seam and unlinking them.
7. String the loop collar and then the canopy, which is the decorative feature that covers the junction box, over the wire and chain. Allow the two elements to hang loose temporarily.
8. Open the top chain link slightly and slide it over the chain hook secured into the crossbar. Close the link around the chain hook.
9. Thread the light's wires up through the chain hook towards the junction box. The wires should be taut but the light should rely on the chain for hanging support.
10. Wrap the fixture's black or smooth wire around your house's black wire. Connect the fixture's white or ribbed wire with the house's white wire. Intertwine the light's green or bare copper wire with your house's green or
11. Push the connected wires into the junction box and secure the canopy in place with the loop collar. Twist a lightbulb with the appropriate wattage into the socket.
