Decorate A Ceiling Canopy

Deciding decorate a ceiling canopy depends entirely on the reason you're decorating. Decorating a ceiling canopy in an open porch will require hardy and weather-proof items. Decorating a canopy in an enclosed living room will allow for fragile and delicate items. If you're like most people, though, you're decorating a ceiling canopy for a fancy celebration, such as a wedding. Before your start planning any artistic additions, it's important to know the ceiling dimensions and canopy style to help determine the proper length for the decorations.

Instructions

1. Choose the middle point in the ceiling canopy. You're going to create long streamers that start at the middle point and go north, south, west, east, northwest, southwest, northeast and southeast of the point, creating eight streamers in all. You need to measure the length of each of the eight directions to know how long to make your streamers. Add 24 extra inches to each measurement to give the streamers enough length to droop into arcs across the ceiling canopy.

2. Pick the first of your eight streamer measurements, with the extra inches already added in, and cut a piece of tulle to the length needed. Cut a piece of ribbon to the length needed. Place the ribbon on a flat surface, face down, and lay the tulle over it. Use a strong, thin string to tie one end of the ribbon and tulle together. Write the direction of the streamer on a piece of paper and safety pin the paper to the untied end of the streamer.

3. Repeat step two to create a tulle and ribbon streamer ceiling canopy decoration for each of the eight directions. Remember to attach a direction note to each streamer.

4. Gather the tied ends of the streamers and use a piece of strong string to tie them together tightly. Cut the string ends so that it remains invisible. This creates the middle of your ceiling canopy decoration.

5. Attach the tied end of the streamers to the middle of the ceiling canopy using poster putty, tape, tacks or hooks. Make sure the short, tied end of the streamers face into the ceiling and the long streamers fall to the floor.

6. Using your direction notes, pull each ribbon and tulle streamer in the correct direction. Remove the note and safety pin from the streamer and secure the loose ends to the edge of the ceiling canopy.
