Fix A Mobile Home Ceiling With Water Damage

Fix a Mobile Home Ceiling With Water Damage

Ugly brown water stains on the ceiling should be repaired at once. The most important part of fixing a mobile home ceiling with water damage is to locate the source of the leak and fix it first. Without such repairs, the damage will reappear after the next rain. Once you have repaired the roof and plugged the leak, repair the damage from the water leak. Your home improvement store has aerosol stain blockers and ceiling paint just for this repair.

Instructions

1. Apply blue painters tape to the wall just under the damaged ceiling tile without pressing the bottom edge of the tape to the wall. Stick plastic sheeting under the loose end of the tape and press the tape to secure it. Cover any furnishings under the spray area to protect it from the spray paint. Cover the metal grid of a suspended tile ceiling with tape to protect it from paint spray. Cover ceiling-mounted air conditioning or heating vents with tape and plastic to protect them. If the heating or air conditioning vent is rusty or needs painting, leave it unprotected so it can be sprayed.

2. Spray the stain with aerosol stain blocker. Let it dry 30 minutes. Apply a second coat if recommended in the instructions on the label of the aerosol can.

3. Shake the aerosol ceiling spray can well. Wear a painting mask while spraying. The aerosol spray is designed to shoot straight up out of the can. Test the spray on the plastic sheeting briefly with one or two quick sprays after shaking.

4. Spray the brown or water stained ceiling tile with the aerosol spray using quick short strokes. Cover the entire stain and let the first coat dry according to the instructions on the aerosol paint label. Allow the paint to dry and spray a second coat using short quick sprays and strokes.
