Paint Speaker Grills

You may need to change the color of your speaker grill so that it matches its surroundings.

If you go to the expense and trouble of installing a home audio system, you will want it to look as nice as possible. One way to make your system look professional is to paint the grills of your speakers to match your walls or ceiling, depending on where the speakers are located. You have to be careful how you go about accomplishing this task, though, because you don't want to clog the small holes in the grill. Luckily, you can paint your speaker grills by using certain careful techniques.

Instructions

1. Remove the grill from the speaker. Most grills are attached by one or more small screws that you can loosen with a screw driver.

2. Wipe the grill thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth. If there is heavy grime on the grill, you may need to immerse it in hot soapy water, scrub it, and dry it thoroughly as well.

3. Place the grill on some old newspapers or rags that you don't mind getting paint on.

4. Add a few drops of paint thinner to your paint and mix well if you are using liquid paint.

5. Apply thinned liquid paint lightly with a foam brush. If it is clumping in the holes, wipe the paint off of the grill and add some more paint thinner to the paint before starting again. If you are using spray paint, spray the grill lightly from at least 24 inches away from the grill.

6. Allow the paint to air dry thoroughly before reattaching the grill to the speaker.
