Make Stencils For The Ceiling From Wallpaper

Make handmade ceiling stencils using craft supplies.

Make your home feel warmer by applying stenciled designs onto the ceiling. If you do not own vellum stencils, you can transform materials that you already have into ceiling stencils. For example, alter sections of wallpaper sheeting to create stencils that can be used more than once.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of wallpaper into a square using scissors to measure 18 inches square.

2. Lay the wallpaper square flat onto a table top, and draw out a picture onto the front of the wallpaper using a wax pencil. Remember that the area you will be drawing will be cut out.

3. Lay the wallpaper onto a mat cutting board, then cut out the drawn shape using a pen knife. Take extra time and care around any corners or sharp edges on your drawing.

4. Tape the wallpaper stencil onto the ceiling using art tape, which can be applied and removed without leaving behind sticky residue.

5. Pour latex wall paint into a paint tray, then dip a sponge brush into the paint to coat the tip.

6. Tap the paint-covered sponge brush over the stencil to cover the cut-out section in an even layer.

7. Remove the wallpaper stencil and the art tape, then apply stencils onto the rest of the ceiling in the same manner. Allow the paint to dry for 4 to 6 hours.
