Make Glue Up Ceiling Tiles

Gluing ceiling tiles can drastically change the look of your kitchen.

Old ceilings, especially popcorn and bare plaster ceilings, can be an eyesore. If you add stains and the wear and tear of time, your ceilings can make a room seem dingier. However, you can easily transform the look of your ceiling with ceiling tiles. Ceiling tiles come in a range of shades, sizes and patterns, making your ceiling look as ornate or as clean and basic as you'd like it to be.

Instructions

1. Set up your scaffold so that it is just underneath the exact middle of your ceiling. Draw a diagonal line with a pencil or long piece of chalk that extends from the upper left corner of your ceiling to the lower right corner with your level. Draw another line that extends from the upper right corner of your ceiling to the lower left corner with your level.

2. Draw a line with your level that goes through your ceiling vertically, dividing it into right and left sides that are perfectly equal. Draw line horizontally through the middle of your ceiling, dividing it into perfect upper and lower portions. You now have divided your ceiling into four smaller squares that have diagonal lines cutting through each one.

3. Take a ceiling tile and apply nickel-sized dots of mastic on it in each corner and in the center. Place the tile in the upper left corner of your lower right square. Verify that the edges of the square match the lines that you've drawn.

4. Apply mastic to another tile and lay it right next to your first one, matching the placement perfectly. Press each tile firmly against the ceiling to insure proper adhesion. Continue in this manner, laying tile after tile until you have a complete row. Build parallel rows by adding tiles until you've covered the entire ceiling.

5. Apply a thin layer of caulk with your caulk gun in between the tiles. Wiping off the excess with a damp sponge. This will help to adhere all the tiles and give your ceiling a finished look.
