Cool A Room Without Vents

Ceiling fans are available in styles that will fit any decor.

Before stringent building codes were enforced, some buildings were built with rooms that lacked heating and cooling vents. The cost of having vents installed can be exorbitant. Fortunately, there are options available to cool a room without vents. If your room has windows, a set of curtains made from a heavy fabric can instantly lower the temperature of a room by keeping out the heat from the sun's rays.

Instructions

1. Install a ceiling fan. A ceiling fan uses a small motor and electricity to propel a set of blades. The blades circulate air in a room to create a breeze that has a cooling effect. Ceiling fans are sold at hardware stores and stores including Target, Walmart and Kmart. Basic knowledge of electrical wiring is required to install a ceiling fan.

2. Purchase a portable air-conditioning unit. Available at hardware stores, the portable units are available in a variety of sizes. Portable air-conditioning units do not require vents. No installation is required and you can move them from room to room. The unit can effectively cool a room by distributing cold air.

3. Purchase portable fans. Portable fans are available in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. The only thing they require is a working electrical outlet. Using portable fans is an energy-efficient way to cool a room. Fans provide air circulation via a set of spinning blades that are housed within a plastic or metal vented unit.
